Happy May!

We had an amazing night last Thursday at our 21st Annual Del Oro Awards. We recognized many of our members for the amazing public relations work they do in our community. I want to take this opportunity to thank our amazing co-chairs Leslie Garza-Wright and Valerie Grant. A lot of work goes into the Del Oro event, and they put in many late nights and weekends to make it a memorable night. Dawn Robinette, APR, not only served as the Individual Awards Chair, but was also my go-to person for all things Del Oro. She helped the committee by bringing her historical knowledge of this valuable program where we get to recognize our members who are making a difference in the public relations industry. To the entire Del Oro committee: Jason Meza, APR, Marcie Ramsey, Laryssa Correa, Ana Flores, Julia Aguillon, and Heidi Lemus, THANK YOU! Start thinking about your entries for 2024, it’s never too early to create your electronic folder of support materials!

Our next luncheon program is June 8 and is all about crisis communications. Read more about it below and register early, it will be a sell-out. As we enter the summer months, I hope you all take some time to relax, spend time with family, take a trip, or enjoy a staycation!

As always, we welcome your feedback. If you have any ideas or suggestions for our Board to consider, please don’t hesitate to contact me, at terri.behling@havenforhope.org

Until next time…

CHAPTER NEWS

2023 PRSA San Antonio Del Oro Awards Gala Recap

Drinks, dinner, and a lot of awards were all part of the 21st Del Oro Awards celebration on Thursday, May 11 at The Veranda. Emceed by KLRN Host of “On the Record,” Randy Beamer, there were plenty of laughs, but a few tears too, especially when individual award winners took the stage.

The honorees recognized were:

· Mariana Veraza-Vierya, Harlandale ISD, Horizon Award

· Morgan’s Inclusive Initiative, Social Responsibility Champion Award

· Kim Jefferies & Celeste Eggert, Haven for Hope, Public Relations Champions

· Rachel Benavidez, VIA Metropolitan Transit, Public Relations Professional of the Year

· Anamaria Suescen-Fast, talkStrategy, Tex Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award

Terri Behling, APR, handed out another 48 awards – El Bronce and La Plata - to businesses, companies and institutions that completed great work in 2022. Some the categories included Annual Reports, Print Magazines, Feature Stories, Websites, Videos, Media Relations, Social Media Engagement, and Influencer Marketing.

Besides people and awards, the term “nano-influencer” had its moment in the spotlight. After presenting an award to Citrus Advertising for Influencer Marketing, Randy asked, “what the…is a nano-influencer?” Everyone laughed, and then in true PR fashion, some pros sitting up front explained it.

If you missed the fun, you’ll have another chance next year. The entry and nominations process will open in December and the Del Oro Awards dinner will take place in May 2024. Be on the lookout for details!
