ENGAGING WITH VIRTUAL COMMUNITIES: BLACK TWITTER & BEYOND


During this Google Hangout, a group of media professionals will discuss how Black Twitter and other virtual communities are changing the face of media coverage. Google Hangout attendees will have the opportunity to
ask questions about how they can authentically connect and engage with these diverse groups on social
platforms.

People of color and diverse audiences have long been left out of and misrepresented in mainstream media.  Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are providing diverse groups with the opportunity  to change biased narratives, speak up against injustices, share culture and experience beyond stereotypes and  organize to start social movements like #BlackLivesMatter, #NotAllMuslims, #SayHerName and #StopGamerGate.

During this Google Hangout, a group of media professionals will discuss how Black Twitter and other virtual  communities are changing the face of media coverage. Google Hangout attendees will have the opportunity to
