8 September 2020 | Chartiers Valley Primary School
Dear Primary School Families,

We hope you had a wonderful long Labor Day weekend!

We want to thank you all for a great second week of school! There are a few questions that may come up throughout the first several days that may be addressed simply by viewing the CVPS Concerns & Who to Call page.

If you are planning to pick up your child in the afternoon, you must complete the Pick-Up Form before 1:30 pm that day. We have twice as many students being picked up this year than normal. Completing the form prior to 1:30 pm will help us to ensure the safety of your child and a smooth dismissal. We appreciate your support with this!

IMPORTANT Attendance Procedures: Both hybrid and CV Cyber students must submit attendance on remote learning days using Infinite Campus. Click here for instructions, or click here for a video tutorial. If a Hybrid or CV Cyber student is unable to check in and complete school work on a remote learning day, the student will be marked absent. Hybrid students who are absent on in-person days may either choose to work in person (if healthy enough to do so), or receive an excused/unexcused absence (documentation must be provided for absence to be excused).

There are a few things that we want to clarify specific to Google Meet:

  • While we highly encourage students to attend Google Meet gatherings, they will not be penalized if they are unable to attend.
  • Please review the Google Meet Permission Letter and Form. If you do not want your child to participate in Google Meets, please complete the form.
  • Homeroom teachers will post information regarding special classes (art, music, library, technology & physical education) on a weekly basis in their Google Classroom. This schedule will change weekly, so please be sure to check your homeroom teacher’s Google Classroom if you are interested in participating in any of these optional Google Meets. Special area teachers will also be posting their Google Meet schedule in their own Google Classrooms.

As always, thank you for all that you do to support our students, our teachers and our CVPS Family. We truly appreciate the positive emails and support that we have received as we work together to navigate the circumstances we are facing.

Have a great four-day week!

Technology Help
The Primary School has dedicated PS Technology page on the website where parents/guardians can find a variety of helpful information, videos, and solutions to help navigate technology aspects within our school. Please click here to read the important updates that were published on August 26, including the charges that may be assessed if a district-owned device becomes damaged or lost.
If you or your child are experiencing a technology concern beyond what is available on the Technology page, please email technology@cvsd.net stating your child’s full name, grade and the issue you are experiencing. Our technology team is working around the clock to support our students, families and staff!

iPads have been issued to all Primary School students! If your child has not yet received their device, please be certain that you have completed the correct iPad Agreement Form:
iPad Agreement form (for cyber students)
iPad Agreement form (for hybrid students)
For hybrid students, teachers can give the iPad to your child after the agreement has been signed. This may take 1 or 2 days to occur. If for any reason you need to pick up your child’s device, please call the main office prior to arriving at school.

Start with Hello!
The Primary School will be participating in Start with Hello the week of September 21-25. The Start with Hello initiative is all about eliminating feelings of social isolation in students.

There are three simple steps to starting with hello:
1. See Someone Alone
2. Reach Out and Help
3. Say Hello

This initiative not only helps with feelings of social isolation but it also promotes various social skills including identifying emotions of others and promoting positive social interactions. Click here for more information.

We encourage all students and staff members to wear a green shirt on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday to show their support of the Start with Hello initiative!

NHS Tutoring Club
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented start to the school year. Online/hybrid school can be very stressful for students and families. As an attempt to relieve some of this stress, the CV National Honor Society is organizing a tutoring service for students K-8 in the Chartiers Valley community. This service is free of charge and is managed by high school members of National Honor Society. Zoom will be utilized for a one hour (maximum) session. Tutoring hours will be held Monday through Friday from 3-8 pm and on Sundays from 2-5 pm. If you are interested, please fill out the form below.
https://forms.gle/em65kcHZ15gEtGfK6 We will be in contact with you once a date, time, and tutor has been confirmed!
