2025 Edmonton Election campaign period set to start on October 31

October 18, 2024

The Alberta government announced legislative changes impacting municipal elections will come into effect on October 31. Regulations to support the new legislation were released today.

Edmonton Elections, the nonpartisan organization within the City of Edmonton responsible for administering the Edmonton Election, is reviewing the regulations and updating their processes and procedures to support the changes. Work is already underway to implement the legislation.

Edmonton Elections is hosting a virtual information session for the public on October 31 to address key aspects of the legislative changes, including:

  • Candidates submitting their notice of intent to run
  • Registering political parties with Edmonton Elections
  • Establishing slates of candidates with Edmonton Elections
  • New requirements for third-party advertisers

A link to the virtual information session will be released in the coming weeks on the Edmonton Elections’ website.

Questions regarding the legislative changes can be submitted to elections@edmonton.ca. Edmonton Elections will do its best to provide answers at the session or afterward, depending on the number of inquiries and time available.
