Edmonton’s students and scholars are gearing up for the 2023-2024 school year, and the City wants to ensure a smooth, safe and fun experience.  

As students begin to make their way back, it’s important to keep in mind there are reduced speed limits around schools, new improvements to the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) schedule, as well as some ongoing construction that may cause delays in your travel this fall. 

Let's make sure students and families are safe. When driving near schools and playgrounds, remember to drive at the safe speed of 30 km/hr, which helps to stop a vehicle quickly and prevent collisions.

When taking children to school or picking them up, give yourself extra time. Learn the school rules and look out for each other. During school pick up, use designated parking and pick-up locations to reduce congestion on local streets and in front of the school. Talk to your children about school safety and the importance of using designated and marked crossings. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Edmonton Transit Service  

ETS is excited to help youth riders get to school this fall with the resumption of school routes and trips, as well as increased frequency on many regular bus routes during peak hours. ETS is also introducing three new school special routes this September.

Five times each year, ETS reviews rider feedback, schedules, service levels and routes to ensure we’re providing the right amount of service at the right time - including during the school year. 

Information on school special routes is available at edmonton.ca/SchoolSpecialBusRoutes. To help new and returning students navigate the public transit network, City staff will be at select transit centres, from September 5 to 8 during morning peak hours, to support riders in finding connections and to answer questions about the service.
