City Hall has entered the last phase of re-opening and will re-open to the public on March 25. The City of Edmonton welcomes back community members and visitors to this important civic space.
In order to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone, new security measures have been implemented. Members of the public must enter through a dedicated access point and undergo security screening and bag check before entering the City Room. All City of Edmonton staff and media must wear visible identification in the building.
“City Hall is a vibrant gathering place for civic participation, celebration and commemoration,” said City Manager Andre Corbould. “I am confident that we have achieved the appropriate balance of a safe and secure environment that is also open and welcoming.”
Individuals entering City Hall through the south corridor to access the Hallway Cafe or City Hall School or to cross through the corridor do not require security screening. Stairwells are locked for emergency use only and elevators require City of Edmonton identification cards to operate. The City Hall parkade remains restricted to authorized users.
Since the City Hall incident on January 23, 2024, the work of both City Administration and elected officials has continued. City staff worked diligently and steadily to restore the building, including replacing glass panels, and repairing walls, floors, carpets and doorways. City Hall has taken a phased approach to re-opening. First Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, some City Councillors and some municipal staff returned to City Hall during the first week of February, followed by the return of additional City employees and guests in mid-March.
