With a winter storm warning issued for Edmonton, City of Edmonton snow and ice crews are working hard to ensure a safe commute for Edmontonians.
Additional employees were called in on Sunday, putting down abrasive material ahead of today’s rain and crews were proactively adding salt to roadway surfaces to prevent ice from building up. Right now, crews are out on major roadways (Whitemud, Yellowhead, etc.), arterial roadways, business districts, alleys/back lanes in business districts, collector roadways, and transit park and ride access roads. Crews are also in residential areas continuing with blading.
With freezing rain turning into snow, and temperatures rapidly dropping overnight, roads conditions are expected to deteriorate for the Tuesday morning commute. Crews will be working across the city, including in emergent and priority areas such as bridge decks and hills.
Edmontonians are encouraged to drive to the conditions, leave room for other vehicles, and ensure that there is space for our crews to work safely.
