City provides update on COVID-19-related enforcement
June 28, 2021

The City thanks Edmontonians for their continued efforts to follow public health orders and for playing an important part in reducing the spread of COVID-19.

City of Edmonton enforcement officers have worked with Alberta Health Services (AHS) on the enforcement of Chief Medical Officer of Health orders related to provincial public health restrictions as well as enforcing the City’s Temporary Mandatory Face Coverings Bylaw.

With the Government of Alberta moving to Stage 3 of its Opening for Summer plan as of July 1, public health restrictions will be lifted in Alberta except for the requirement to wear masks on transit, in taxis and ride shares and in certain care home settings.

The authority of peace officers to enforce public health orders will conclude at 11:59 p.m. on July 2. There is no indication, as of June 28, whether that will be extended.

City Council has also amended the face coverings bylaw to deactivate it as of July 1.

This will be the final public service announcement on enforcement of public health orders and the face coverings bylaw given the changes that take effect July 1.
