August 30, 2022
The City wishes Edmonton students well as they begin the 2022-23 school year. In order to help ensure a safe and successful back-to-school season, the City reminds Edmontonians of the reduced speed limits around schools, Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) school special bus routes, and construction projects that could impact commutes this fall.
Traffic safety
To help keep students and families safe, it is important to drive within the 30 km/h speed limit around schools. This is the safest speed, as it allows drivers to stop quickly and helps avoid serious injury or fatality in the event of a collision.
Please plan extra time to drop-off and pick students up from school, know school procedures and watch out for one another. When picking up students, please park legally and walk to the school.
ETS support
ETS is helping students get to school by reintroducing school special bus routes. Information about school special routes can be found at edmonton.ca/SchoolSpecialBusRoutes
To help new and returning students navigate the transit system, City staff will be at select transit centres during morning peak hours performing back-to-school outreach from August 31 until September 9. Riders are encouraged to plan their trip in advance at edmonton.ca/transit
Fall construction projects
With more than 250 active City projects, commuters are encouraged to check the City’s traffic disruptions map at edmonton.ca/TrafficDisruptions when planning trips to find out about road closures, travel delays and timelines for construction projects.
