Edmonton Transit Service winter service changes take effect Sunday, December 1. Various bus routes, including school special routes, will see service adjustments to reflect typical winter ridership patterns.
Bus Bay Reassignments
ETS will reassign numerous bus bays at transit centres throughout the city to reduce congestion:
-
Coliseum - Route 53 will move from Bay L to Bay K.
-
Meadows - Route 504 (Davies) will move from Bay F to Bay H. Route 507 (Southgate) will move from Bay H to Bay F.
-
Southgate - Route 55 (West Edmonton Mall) will move from Bay D to Bay O; Route 55 (Meadows) will move from Bay O to Bay D. Route 9 (Eaux Claires) buses will move from Bay R to Bay P. Regional buses (i.e., Rider Express, Canada Bus and FlixBus), will now pick up and drop-off riders on 111 Street, across from the transit centre.
-
West Clareview - Route 620 will move from Bay J to Bay H.
Signage will be placed at the affected stops to direct riders to the correct bus bay. Updated transit centre maps will also be added to edmonton.ca/transitcentres starting December 1.
On Demand Transit
Starting December 1, a new On Demand Transit stop will be added in the Alces neighbourhood at 34 Street and Charlesworth Drive SW.
Route 914 will return to its original routing and serve the Aldergrove neighbourhood. As a result, Aldergrove will no longer receive On Demand service.
Construction and Detours
Due to Capital Line South LRT construction, several routes are currently experiencing delays at the intersection of 111 Street and 23 Avenue. These delays are expected to increase as construction intensifies around Century Park Transit Centre. To help reduce delays, Routes 56, 518, 519, 707, 708, 715, 716, and 717 will be placed on long-term detour. More information can be found at edmonton.ca/TransitAlerts.
Other service changes:
-
Route 5 (Downtown) will now end its trips at #1393 (96 Street and Jasper Avenue eastbound) instead of at Stop 1188 (95 Street and Jasper Avenue southbound). This improves schedule efficiencies.
-
Routes 7, 9 and 506 had additional trips added in October to help alleviate overcrowding. These trips will be permanently added to schedules in December.
- The following adjustments were made to school service in October and will be made permanent in December:
-
Route 664 - A new trip was added to this school route to Father Michael McCaffery Catholic High School from the Cashman/Cavanagh neighbourhoods.
-
Route 669 - A new school route was created to help students get from Keswick to Father Michael McCaffery Catholic High School.
-
Routes 645, 646, and 647 had their service to Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School reduced due to low ridership.
-
Route 914 will return to its regular routing in Aldergrove.
Riders are encouraged to plan their trips early by using the trip planner on edmonton.ca/transit or Google Maps and selecting a date after December 1.
