Edmonton recognizes Waste Collector Appreciation Day on June 17
June 14, 2022
A waste collector smiles as he gets into his truck.
The City of Edmonton encourages all residents to recognize waste collectors, and the essential role they play in keeping our city clean, in advance of Waste Collector Appreciation Day on June 17.

Waste collectors are integral to Edmonton’s waste management system, enabling residents to live comfortably in clean and healthy communities. Their hard work was evident during the changes to Edmonton’s curbside collection, implemented through the Edmonton Cart Rollout in 2021, when they helped residents navigate the new waste sorting system.

In addition to curbside collection, waste collectors work in a variety of roles around Edmonton, including communal collectors at apartments and condos, Recycling Depot attendants, Eco Station attendants and Assisted Waste collectors. All waste collectors perform an important, everyday service, helping to preserve Edmonton’s natural environment.

Waste Collector Appreciation Day is an opportunity for all residents to thank waste collectors for their hard work and dedicated service. You can show your gratitude in a number of ways. For example:
  • Attach a “thank you” sign to your cart, bags, or bin for your waste collectors.
  • Post a message on social media—tag @CityofEdmonton and #yegWaste so we can share it with our collectors.
  • If you see a collector on their route, wave and thank them at a safe distance!

Residents can show year-round appreciation for their collectors by following safety tips to help keep their waste collectors safe and healthy.
