Edmonton recognizes the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III
May 3, 2023

On May 6, 2023, His Majesty King Charles III will be formally crowned and become the 40th reigning monarch.

As many Edmontonians prepare to watch televised ceremonies and celebrations of this historical event, the City of Edmonton will recognize the occasion by lighting City Hall, High Level Bridge, Walterdale Bridge, Commonwealth Stadium, Muttart Conservatory and the Rossdale plant emerald green on May 6 and 7.

Edmontonians are invited to visit City Hall on May 4 and 5, to sign a book of congratulations. The book will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.

To permanently commemorate the coronation, a tree will be planted for King Charles III at Coronation Park, as ground conditions and weather permit.

The City of Edmonton has a long history with the monarchy including many past royal visits and Edmonton landmarks and buildings with ties to the monarchy.

The celebrations will be available on Canadian Heritage’s YouTube channel and on the Crown in Canada Facebook.
