Due to precipitation and cooler weather, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services has lifted the fire ban for the City of Edmonton, effective immediately.
Edmontonians are now able to use backyard fire pits and BBQs, cooking stoves, and backyard smokers that use wood and briquettes, as well as use open burning and fireworks permits. Remember, all backyard fire pits must meet all requirements identified in the City’s
fire pit bylaw and permits are required for
open burning and for the purchase, possession, storage and discharge of
fireworks.
The decision to lift the fire ban is based on the Fire Weather Index (FWI), which takes into account weather data such as temperature, humidity, wind speeds and precipitation. The FWI is monitored daily.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services would like to thank the public for their cooperation and will continue to monitor the Fire Weather Index. A fire restriction or ban may be reinstated, should conditions require it, as a necessary precaution to keep people and their property safe.
