The anniversary of Confederation, Canada Day is an opportunity for us to come together to learn and reflect on our country’s history, and to recommit to moving towards reconciliation.
To mark the day, a magnificent fireworks display will light up the sky over Edmonton's central River Valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River.
Fireworks Show
Time: 11 p.m.
Watch the spectacular fireworks show over the central River Valley on Friday, July 1. The fireworks will be livestreamed by
CBC Edmonton for anyone who would like to watch from home.
Good viewing locations:
- Alberta Legislature Grounds
- Victoria Park
- Ezio Faraone Park (west entrance to High Level Bridge on 109 Street north)
Viewing areas accessible on foot only (closed to vehicles):
- River Valley Road trail
- Walterdale Hill Road sidewalks and east Promenade
- Queen Elizabeth Park
- 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)
Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park.
Pedestrian access will be unavailable in Kinsmen Park, including trail access, after road closures are in effect. Kinsmen playground and picnic areas are closed starting at 6 a.m. on Canada Day, July 1.
North-South Pedestrian Bridge Access:
The following pedestrian access across the North Saskatchewan River will be unavailable from 9:45 p.m. until 90 minutes after the fireworks:
- High Level Bridge
- 109 Street southbound, from 97 Avenue/ High Level Bridge to 87 Avenue
- Menzies Bridge
Pedestrian access across the river will be available via the Groat Road Bridge, James Macdonald Bridge, Walterdale Bridge and the Low Level Bridge.
Watercraft
Watercraft may be taken out on the river to view the fireworks, however for safety reasons, a portion of the river to the north of the launch zone at Kinsmen Park (from approximately the Menzies Bridge to the Walterdale Bridge) will be blocked off to all watercraft during the fireworks. Before taking watercraft out on the North Saskatchewan River, check the
boat launch notifications. Closures may occur due to water levels, weather, or other situations.
Canada Day Road Closures
Expect traffic delays two hours before the fireworks and two hours after the show. Please be patient and courteous to help to make the trip home from the fireworks safe for everyone.

ETS Canada Day Service
On July 1, all ETS bus routes will operate on their regular Sunday schedules,
with additional service for the fireworks display. Capital/Metro Line trains run on Saturday schedules. Capital Line trains will run every 12 minutes until approximately 1 a.m. on July 2. Regular
transit fares apply.
Please allow plenty of time to get where you're going on Canada Day. Plan ahead and expect travel delays both before and after the fireworks display. Visit

Parking Restrictions
Increased parking restrictions will be in effect on Canada Day. The installation of no parking signs and no stopping signs will begin early on July 1 to ensure that these lanes are clear of vehicles during peak traffic times.
There will be no stopping or parking from 7 p.m. until midnight at these locations:
- 109 Street, between 99 Avenue and 104 Avenue
- 109 Street, between 82 Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive
- 107 Street, between 99 Avenue and 102 Avenue
- 105 Street, between 102 Avenue and 104 Avenue
- River Valley Road, from 105 Street to Groat Road
After 8 p.m. parking will not be available at Kinsmen Sports Centre, Queen Elizabeth Pool or Victoria Park Site #6 Picnic Shelter. Obey all signage and direction of any onsite security personnel. Vehicles illegally parked will be tagged and towed. For more information about parking visit

Fireworks Safety
Be safe and remember you must have a permit issued by The City of Edmonton to use fireworks in Edmonton. Always check if there is a

Muttart Conservatory

Visit the
Muttart Conservatory on Canada Day! We’ll be demonstrating some upcycled crafts to go with the Junkyard Feature Pyramid. Participate in some planting activities and watch a circus performer.
Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration
Time: 2 to 11p.m.
Location: 66 Street and 23 Avenue
Cost: Free admission
In its 30th year, the
Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration will honour our nation’s storied history and the diversity of the community with a free and inclusive event featuring multicultural performances, dance, music, fun and fireworks. Fireworks display starts at 11 p.m.
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature
Time: Noon to 5 p.m.
Location: Alberta Legislature Building, Edmonton Federal Building & Grounds
Cost: Free admission
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature is the province’s biggest Canada Day party. Visitors will enjoy free family-friendly entertainment and activities, including a pancake breakfast, ceremonial events, live performances and more. The Canada Day event will highlight and honour Alberta’s diversity with many fun festivities throughout the historic Legislature Grounds.
Chinatown Canada Day Celebration
Time: 1 to 8 p.m.
Location: Kinistinâw Park (96 Street, from 102A Avenue to 103A Avenue)
Cost: Free admission
Celebrate Canada Day in front of the
Chinese Benevolent Association of Edmonton in the heart of Heritage Chinatown with cultural performances, games, craft and trinket sales, and food vendors. Everyone welcome!

Watch the fireworks and a baseball game at one location! Come to RE/MAX Field for a night of baseball (Edmonton Riverhawks vs. the Nanaimo Nightowls) and family-friendly entertainment, and stay in the ballpark for a front row seat to view the Canada Day fireworks. Game starts at 7:05 p.m. and concessions will be open until 11 p.m. Tickets on sale at

Spray Parks
Splash away on Canada Day at one of the City's
spray parks. Please note that the Kinsmen Park Common Spray Park will close at 7 p.m. on July 1.
