The anniversary of Confederation, Canada Day, is an opportunity for us to come together to learn, acknowledge and reflect on significant positive and negative actions in our country's history.
To mark the day, fireworks will light up the sky over Edmonton's central River Valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River.
Fireworks Show
Time: 11 p.m.
Watch the fireworks show over the central River Valley on Saturday, July 1. The fireworks will be livestreamed by
CBC Edmonton for anyone who would like to watch from home.
Excellent viewing locations (direct sightline):
- Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill
- River Valley Road Trail
- Victoria Park
- Ezio Faraone Park (west entrance to High Level Bridge on 109 Street north)
Good viewing locations (indirect sightline):
- Alberta Legislature Grounds
- Walterdale Hill Road sidewalks and east Promenade
- Government House Park
- 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)
Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park.
Pedestrian access will be unavailable in Kinsmen Park, including trail access, after road closures are in effect. Kinsmen playground, tennis courts and picnic areas are closed starting at 6 a.m. on Canada Day, July 1.
North-South Pedestrian Bridge Access:
The following pedestrian access across the North Saskatchewan River will be unavailable from 9:45 p.m. until 90 minutes after the fireworks:
- High Level Bridge
- 109 Street southbound, from 97 Avenue/ High Level Bridge to 87 Avenue
- Menzies Bridge
Pedestrian access across the river will be available via the Groat Road Bridge, James Macdonald Bridge, Walterdale Bridge and the Low Level Bridge.
Watercraft
Watercraft may be taken out on the river to view the fireworks, however for safety reasons, a portion of the river to the north of the launch zone at Kinsmen Park (from approximately the Menzies Bridge to the Walterdale Bridge) will be blocked off to all watercraft during the fireworks. Before taking watercraft out on the North Saskatchewan River, check the
boat launch notifications. Closures may occur due to water levels, weather, or other situations.
Canada Day Road Closures
Expect traffic delays two hours before the fireworks and two hours after the show. Please be patient and courteous to help to make the trip home from the fireworks safe for everyone.

Parking Restrictions
Increased parking restrictions will be in effect on Canada Day. The installation of no parking signs and no stopping signs will begin early on July 1 to ensure that these lanes are clear of vehicles during peak traffic times.
There will be no stopping or parking from 7 p.m. until midnight at these locations:
- 109 Street, between 99 Avenue and 104 Avenue
- 109 Street, between 82 Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive
- 107 Street, between 99 Avenue and 102 Avenue
- 105 Street, between 102 Avenue and 104 Avenue
- River Valley Road, from 105 Street to Groat Road
After 8 p.m., parking will not be available at the Kinsmen Sports Centre, Queen Elizabeth Pool or Victoria Park Site #6 Picnic Shelter. Please obey all signage and the direction of any onsite security personnel. Vehicles illegally parked will be tagged and towed. For more information about parking visit

ETS Canada Day Service
On July 1, all ETS bus routes will operate on their regular Sunday schedules,
with additional service for the fireworks display. Capital/Metro Line trains will run on Saturday schedules. Capital Line trains will run every 15 minutes until approximately 1 a.m. on July 2. Regular
transit fares apply.
Please allow plenty of time to get where you're going on Canada Day. Plan ahead and expect travel delays both before and after the fireworks display. Visit

Fireworks Safety
Be safe and remember, you must have a permit issued by the City of Edmonton to use fireworks within city limits. Always check to see if there is a
fire ban in effect before use and make sure wind conditions are safe, as per permit conditions. For more information contact the Fire Prevention Office at

Muttart Conservatory
Event Time: Noon to 4 p.m.

Visit the
Muttart Conservatory on July 1st for our Build and Blossom event! We will be celebrating our newest feature pyramid, Muttart Brick by Brick, featuring custom creations built with LEGO® bricks. We’ll have building, creating, and crafting activities throughout the Muttart centre court. Guests will also get to enjoy face painting, four different plant filled pyramids, tours, Café Bloom, and more!
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature
Time: Noon to 5 p.m.
Location: Alberta Legislature Building, Queen Elizabeth II Building & Grounds
Cost: Free admission
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature is one of the province’s biggest Canada Day parties. Visitors will enjoy free family-friendly entertainment and activities, including food trucks, ceremonial events, live performances and more. The Canada Day event will highlight and honour Alberta’s diversity with many fun festivities throughout the historic Legislature Grounds. Your Alberta Legislature connects people to parliament!
Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration
Time: 2 to 11 p.m.
Location: Mill Woods Park (66 Street and 23 Avenue)
Cost: Free admission
In its 31st year, the
Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration will honour our nation’s rich history and the diversity of the community with a free and inclusive event featuring multicultural performances, dance, music, fun and fireworks. Fireworks display starts at 11p.m.
ICE District Canada Day Celebration
Time: 2 to 10 p.m.
Location: ICE District Plaza
Cost: Free admission
Head to
ICE District for a Canada Day barbeque bash featuring Tim Hicks, Nice Horse and Taylor-Rae who are set to perform on the main stage in ICE District Plaza, starting at 5 p.m. The Fan Park at ICE District will have drop-in basketball, pickleball and street hockey for everyone to participate in, as well as snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments. The ICE District Plaza will feature music, games, inflatables, photo booths, face painting, performers for kids of all ages, the city’s best food trucks, non-alcoholic refreshments and adult beverages. The Canada Day festivities will conclude at 10 p.m. to allow enough time for attendees to take in the firework display over the central River Valley at 11 p.m.
Canada Day Drumming for Newcomers
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Louise McKinney Riverfront Park – Shumka Stage

Join this
Canada 150 legacy event that strives to deepen intercultural understanding, promote patriotism, and enhance civic engagement through one of the world’s most ancient and widely-adopted art forms – percussive arts. Bring your drum to be a part of the live simultaneous nationwide drumming followed by various local cultural performances organized by the Edmonton Chapter of the National Congress of Chinese Canadians.
RE/MAX Field
Watch the fireworks and a baseball game at one location! Come to RE/MAX Field for a night of baseball (Edmonton Riverhawks vs. the Wenatchee AppleSox) and family-friendly entertainment, and stay in the ballpark for a front row seat to view the Canada Day fireworks. Game starts at 7:05 p.m. Concessions will be open until 11 p.m. Tickets on sale at

“Meet Me Downtown” on Canada Day
Pack your sunscreen, your beach towel and some snacks, and splash away your Canada Day in the fountain on the
City Hall Plaza. Enjoy games, pool toys, and a roving entertainer.
Spray Parks
