Getting around during the 2018 Grey Cup

From November 21–24, thousands of visitors will flock to downtown Edmonton to take part in the Grey Cup festival and parade. The excitement will culminate with the 106th Grey Cup championship game on Sunday, November 25, at Commonwealth Stadium.
Here’s what you need to know to have a great Grey Cup experience.

Grey Cup Festival
Taking place November 21 to 24, the Grey Cup Nissan TITAN Street Festival will be a four-day family-friendly event. Situated on Jasper Avenue, from 96 Street to 99 Street, the festival will include a number of exciting activities, such as the Capital Power Zipline, the EPCOR Street Ski, the Jiffy Lube Tube Slide and a bungee jump.

Grey Cup Festival Road Closures, November 14–28
A number of road closures and bus detours will be in effect in the downtown core for the festival and parade. Please plan your route in advance and leave extra travel time to get where you’re going.

To accommodate the festival, including the site set-up and dismantling, the following road closures will be in effect:
  • Jasper Avenue, between 96 Street and 99 Street
  • 97 Street, between Jasper Avenue and 101A Avenue
Streets will re-open by 6 p.m. on November 28.
ETS Bus Detours for Grey Cup Festival from November 14-28
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) will detour several bus routes on Jasper Avenue, between 95 Street and 100 Street, for the Grey Cup festival. Beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14 to approximately 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, bus routes 2, 3, 5, 14, 88, 100, 120, 161, 162, 308, 309 and 560 will detour around the Grey Cup festival site. 

Temporary bus stops will be operating. Specific temporary bus stop locations, as well as additional information related to these detours, is available here .

Parking Restrictions
Parking restrictions will be in effect. Illegally parked vehicles will ticketed and towed. Street parking and parkades are available at various downtown locations. Regular rates apply.

Drop-Off Zone
A taxi, ride share and public drop-off and pick-up area will be located on Jasper Avenue, from 95 Street to 96 Street.

Accessible Drop-Off Zone
The accessible drop-off and pick-up location for Disabled Adult Transit Service (DATS) and those with approved placards is on the south curb of 100 Street and Jasper Avenue (going eastbound).

Funicular
The funicular will be operational from 7 a.m. to midnight, from Thursday, November 22, to Saturday, November 24.

CN Grey Cup Parade
Bundle up and bring the family to watch the CN Grey Cup Parade on November 24 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. A Grey Cup tradition, the parade will feature hundreds of participants, floats and marching bands. This year’s Grey Cup parade has teamed up with Santa’s Parade of Lights , which will be presented in its entirety following the last Grey Cup entry.

Parade Route: The parade will start at Jasper Avenue and 108 Street, heading east to 101 Street. It will then head north on 101 Street to 102A/103 Avenue, where it will travel west, ending at 103 Street.

Parade Assembly Area Road Closures, November 24 from 6:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
The following road closures will be in effect:
  • Between Jasper Avenue and 104 Avenue, from 106 Street to 108 Street
Access to off-street parking facilities in this area will be maintained via 106 Street and 107 Street until 8:30 a.m. only .

Parade Route Road Closures, November 24 from 10:15 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
The following road closures will be in effect:
  • Jasper Avenue, from 100 Street to 109 Street
  • 101 Street, from Jasper Avenue to 102A Avenue
  • 103 Avenue, from 101 Street to 103 Street
Street parking will not be permitted along the parade route. Vehicle tag and tow operations will be in effect.
ETS Bus Detours for Grey Cup Parade, Saturday, November 24
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is detouring several bus routes for the Grey Cup parade on Saturday, November 24.
  • From 5:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., bus routes 2, 7, 8, 15, 111 and 112 will detour from 108 Street to 105 Street, between 102 Avenue and 103 Avenue.
  • From 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., bus routes 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 15, 52, 100, 111, 112, 120, 140 and 151 will detour off of Jasper Avenue, from 100 Street to 109 Street.
  • From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., bus routes 2, 7, 8, 15, 111 and 112 will detour from 108 Street to 105 Street, between 102 Avenue and 103 Avenue.

Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre Closure
Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre will be closed to the public on November 24 and 25. Facility patrons are asked to use other recreation centres such as Clareview Community Recreation Centre, Kinsmen Sports Centre, and Londonderry Leisure Centre on these dates.

Game Day – Sunday, November 25
Commonwealth Stadium Parking Lots & Road Closures, November 25 from 11 a.m.–11 p.m.
To accommodate traffic around Commonwealth Stadium on game day, additional roadway and parking restrictions will be in effect:
  • Parking lots at the stadium and recreation centre will be closed.
  • Stadium Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic.
  • Residential parking restrictions will be in effect in the neighbourhoods around the stadium.
Those attending the game are encouraged to take public transit to the Stadium.

Take ETS to the 106th Grey Cup Game
ETS is providing football fans extensive service for the 106th Grey Cup at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday, November 25. 

Park & Ride
ETS will operate dedicated bus service from Football Park & Ride l ots beginning at 1:30 p.m., with the last bus departing each lot at 5 p.m. Following the game, Park & Ride service will return passengers to their respective lots beginning at 7 p.m. until the stadium is empty. Service from Burns City Lot will detour due to road closures around Commonwealth Stadium.

Additionally, ETS will honour the Free Ticket to Ride program from 11 a.m. until two hours after the game ends, allowing customers with a ticket to the Grey Cup to ride transit for free. Children 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult can also ride free.

LRT Service
From start of service until approximately 12 p.m., Capital Line LRT, which stops at Stadium station, will operate every 15 minutes. After 12 p.m., frequency will increase to every 7–8 minutes until approximately 10 p.m. Metro Line trains will operate on a regular Sunday schedule.
