Last night, City crews were out supporting the painting of the inclusive crosswalk at 109 Street and 104 Avenue. This crosswalk design is the result of a collaboration between the City and MacEwan University, which started as part of the rainbow crosswalk initiative in 2019.
“The City of Edmonton is committed to vibrancy as we recover from COVID-19, these crosswalks contribute to a safe and inclusive Edmonton,” said Jill Chesley, Senior Diversity & Inclusion Consultant. “As part of our ongoing commitment to building and shaping an inclusive and equitable City, this year's annual refresh of the pride crosswalks includes the chevron of black, brown, light blue, pink and white, representing queer people of colour and transgender individuals.”
The remaining locations in Old Strathcona (two crossings at each location) will begin being painted on May 17, weather permitting:
- 104 Street and 84 Avenue
- 106 Street and 82 Avenue
- 108 Street and 82 Avenue
Edmontonians can also watch for the Pride Bus, an ETS bus wrapped with a celebratory and inclusive pride artwork. The bus is in circulation year-round and can be seen throughout the City on regular ETS routes.
Pride Week runs from June 7-11 and Edmontonians are encouraged to celebrate safely and follow all Alberta Health Services guidelines.
