Learn more about ETS at a garage open house
September 7, 2023

Edmontonians are invited to attend open houses at three Edmonton Transit Service garages this month. The open houses offer a behind-the-scenes opportunity to see what it takes to run a public transit service in our city, and highlight how each type of service connects people to each other and to the places that matter to them. Attendees will have the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a bus or a train and get the chance to take home a vintage ETS bus stop sign! Details on the three open houses are as follows:

Date: Saturday, September 16
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Centennial bus garage, 15520 Ellerslie Road SW

Attendees will be able to see a variety of buses - including, diesel, electric and historical - at the garage which was named in recognition of ETS’ 100+ years of service.

Date: Thursday, September 21
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Percy Wickman garage, 5610 86 Street NW

Here, attendees will learn about some of the latest initiatives and technologies serving Dedicated Accessible Transit Services (DATS) clients. There will also be an opportunity to explore several types of DATS vehicles.

Date: Saturday, September 23
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: D.L. MacDonald LRT garage, 13310 50A Street NW

Visitors will be able to check out ETS’ newest and oldest train cars, as well as the equipment used to maintain/repair the LRT fleet. Due to limited visitor parking, there will be two free shuttles running during this open house. One will run between D.L. MacDonald Garage and Belvedere Transit Centre, the other will run between D.L MacDonald Garage and Eaux Claires Transit Centre.

Do you have questions about what it’s like to operate a bus or train or wonder about how the hundreds of buses on City roads are scheduled? City staff will be on hand to answer these questions and much more.

Please note garage operations will be ongoing during the open houses. The public areas will be marked to help attendees learn more about transit operations and maintenance without requiring personal protective equipment. For everyone’s safety, please obey all signage and follow staff directions for the duration of your visit.
