Progress on the Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion continues, bringing changes to traffic patterns at the Yellowhead Trail and 127 Street intersection.
Eastbound traffic on Yellowhead Trail has been redirected to a new detour lane, removing the left-hand turn for northbound travel on 127 Street.
On November 18, westbound traffic on Yellowhead Trail will be rerouted to the newly constructed detour lanes, maintaining two lanes of through traffic and right-hand turns.
On November 25, northbound and southbound traffic on 127 Street will transition to the detour lanes, maintaining two lanes of through traffic and right-hand turns. Left-hand turns onto Yellowhead Trail from 127 Street will be prohibited.
Simultaneously, work is advancing on the
156 Street to St. Albert project, with new one-way eastbound and westbound service roads opening to traffic. These roads provide access to 156 Street, 149 Street, 142 Street and St. Albert Trail. On the
Fort Road Widening project, two lanes have reopened to traffic, with additional lanes and pedestrian access expected to reopen on Fort Road by the end of 2023.
While construction schedules are subject to weather conditions, road users should anticipate delays during detour implementation. Exercise caution, follow signage and reduce speed for the safety of drivers and the construction team.
The City of Edmonton’s Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion is a transformational project upgrading Yellowhead Trail to improve the safety, operational capacity and level of service for this key inter-city, inter-regional and inter-provincial goods movement corridor.
