The City of Edmonton is launching another exciting year of Front Yards in Bloom—a beloved tradition for gardeners, yard enthusiasts and community members. Front Yards in Bloom allows communities to come together and stay connected. This year is particularly noteworthy as 2022 has been proclaimed as Canada’s Year of the Garden! This is an invitation to celebrate Canada’s rich horticulture and garden heritage, celebrate today’s vibrant garden culture and create legacies for a sustainable future.
In honour of Canada’s Year of the Garden initiative, Front Yards in Bloom would like to highlight the Edible Yard category, which can include anything from vegetables and grains to fruiting trees, berry bushes, perennials, flowers or even mushrooms. The Year of the Garden 2022 invites all Canadians to plant something red to express their Canadian garden pride and the joy of celebrating the Year of the Garden 2022.
Even without a green thumb or space to design, everyone can participate by nominating a yard or space that you admire. Nominees will receive a yard sign and a chance to be recognized in one of six categories as a household that promotes neighbourly connection and beautification. Categories include General, Natural, Edible, Public Spaces, Tiny Yards and Balconies in Bloom.
Since 1999, the Edmonton Horticultural Society, Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the City of Edmonton have celebrated citizens who work hard to make their space beautiful. To nominate a front yard, public space or balcony and for more information on the program, visit
