Protocol for tributes for fallen officers following the regimental funeral
March 28, 2023

There has been a tremendous outpouring of support from our community and across the entire nation. The City of Edmonton thanks all Edmontonians for the support that they have shown to the fallen officers, their families and the Edmonton Police Service.

As the regimental funeral service has concluded, we now begin a new stage of grief and healing. In support of the Edmonton Police Service’s protocols, over the coming days the City of Edmonton will begin to take down public signs of tribute and memorial.

Taking these items down in a respectful way, at the appropriate time, is an important way to show our respect. The City will be completing the following actions:

  • On Tuesday March 28, the City of Edmonton will remove blue ribbons from fleet vehicles and begin the removal of flower memorials; and
  • On Wednesday March 29, City crews will begin removing blue ribbons from public property.

Crews will be working with the utmost care and attention, and will provide gifts and cards to the Edmonton Police Service. Flowers will be gathered and composted and any other materials will be recycled, if possible.
