Edmonton Elections is prepared to deliver a safe election during the COVID-19 pandemic and will follow all provincial health measures and municipal bylaws in place at the time of the election. The safety of voters and election workers in voting stations is a top priority, and you can expect to see various safety measures including:
- Face coverings
- Plexiglass barriers
- Readily available hand sanitizer
- Ability to physically distance
- Enhanced sanitization of the voting stations
In addition, here are a few reminders if you are thinking of running as a candidate or voting in the election:
Nomination period
The nomination period ends on September 20 at noon and no nominations will be accepted after this time. Candidates have until noon on September 21 to withdraw their nominations. If you are still considering running in the Edmonton Election for Mayor, Councillor, Edmonton Catholic Schools Trustee or Edmonton Public Schools Trustee please visit
edmonton.ca/forcandidates for more information. The official nomination list will be published by noon on September 22. On September 24, Edmonton Elections will be hosting a virtual information session for candidates about what to expect on Election Day. If you are not able to join us live, it will be recorded and posted on our website.
Voting opportunities
There will be multiple safe opportunities for voters to cast their ballots for Mayor, Councilors, School Board Trustees (Public and Catholic School Boards), senate election and referendum vote in the Edmonton Election including:
- Advance Vote: October 4 to 13, 1 - 7 p.m. including Thanksgiving Monday, October 11. The number of Advance Voting Stations has been doubled to 12 or one per ward.
- Election Day: October 18. 212 voting stations will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
- Special ballot: Available to those who are unable to vote at an Advance Voting station or on Election Day because of one of three legislated reasons:
- Disability
- Absence from the local jurisdiction (city of Edmonton), or
- Working on Election Day at a voting station other than that of the voter’s place of residence
