Residents urged to stay away from North Saskatchewan River
May 22, 2020

The City of Edmonton is asking Edmontonians to stay off the North Saskatchewan River and away from river banks due to rapidly rising water levels. Water levels are expected to increase three metres in the next 48 hours and could result in excess debris in the river as well as walking trails and boat launches being submerged in low-lying areas.

Water levels are rising quickly as a result of steady rainfall the past two days.

Edmontonians are urged to:
  • Stay off the river and away from the river bank
  • Keep dogs away from the river
  • Keep boats off the river

Park users are asked to obey all signs and detours. Anyone who sees a person or animal in need of rescue should not enter the water, but call 9-1-1.

Updates about trail closures due to rising water levels will be posted on the Trail/Park Cautions & Closures map at edmonton.ca/trailcautions
