December 2, 2021
On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the City of Edmonton Reuse Centre will open its doors for the first time since March 2020, with a few changes in operations and programs to help improve efficiency and enable greater reuse of items within our community.
The reopening reflects a renewed commitment to the mandate of the Reuse Centre. The operations and programs will include a stronger focus on supporting a circular economy and Zero Waste Framework through education and promotion of reuse within the community. Waste prevention and reuse are the most sustainable methods of waste reduction and play an essential role in the City’s goal of a 90 per cent residential diversion rate.
Accepted Items
The list of accepted items has been refined to more effectively contribute to the circular economy, in which waste is considered a resource. Every item was evaluated based on demand, the quantity donated, opportunities to donate elsewhere, and whether it fit within a circular economy framework. Visit edmonton.ca/reusecentre to learn more about what items are accepted.
Eco Station Drop Off
In addition, residents will no longer be able to drop off reuse items at the Eco Stations. This change was made to encourage residents to visit the Reuse Centre, where they will also have the option to pick up donated items when dropping off their reusable items.
Hours of Operation
Hours of operation have been reduced to help ensure the Reuse Centre can meet the needs of Edmontonians while managing operational costs. The new hours are:
- Monday - Closed
- Tuesday - Closed
- Wednesday - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Thursday - Noon - 6 p.m.
- Friday - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Saturday - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Sunday - Closed
Shop for Free in 2022
To thank Edmontonians for their support during its closure, and to celebrate its 15th anniversary, the Reuse Centre will offer reused items for free in 2022.
We look forward to welcoming Edmontonians back to the Reuse Centre, and promoting waste reduction and reuse in the community.
Media will be invited for a closer look at the Reuse Centre in early spring 2022, to give staff time to ensure operations and programs are running efficiently.
