This spring all residents receiving curbside will have two yard waste collection days between April 24 and June 19.
April 19, 2023

Spring yard waste collection is around the corner. Residents receiving curbside collection will have two yard waste collection days between April 24 and June 19. Yard waste includes leaves, twigs, branches, fallen fruit, dead plants, grass and other plant material from your yard or garden.

Yard waste collection days occur on Mondays. You can find your yard waste collection dates by visiting edmonton.ca/YardWaste, checking your printed waste collection calendar, or downloading the WasteWise app on the Google Play or Apple App Store.

On collection days, yard waste should be set out before 7 a.m. in see-through plastic or double-ply paper bags. Sticks and branches over 0.3 metres (1 ft) should be bundled and set out outside of yard waste bags. Bundles must be less than 1.2 metres (4 ft) and 0.75 metre (2.5 ft) in diameter.

There is no volume limit for yard waste collection - you can set out as many bags or bundles as you need. Residents receiving curbside collection will also have two yard waste collection days this fall.
Yard waste collected at the curb or dropped off at City Eco Stations is turned into horticultural compost, which can be picked up for free at Ambleside and Kennedale Eco stations starting April 22
City of Edmonton compost
Have you ever wondered what happens to the yard waste that you set out for collection or drop off at an Eco Station? It is processed at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre and turned into high quality horticultural compost. This compost is rich in organic matter and an excellent supplement to improve soil and planting mixes and helps the growth of grass, ornamental plants, vegetables and fruit trees.

City of Edmonton horticultural compost will be available to residents for free at the Ambleside and Kennedale Eco Stations starting April 22. The compost piles are self-serve, with instructions on how to pick up and use the compost available at edmonton.ca/CompostGiveaway.

For those who prefer to not have to shovel their own compost or require large quantities, City of Edmonton compost is also available for bulk purchase. For more information and purchasing options, visit edmonton.ca/CompostSales
