Summer Streets are returning once again to support active travel and help Edmontonians enjoy the outdoors!
Summer Streets will be installed this month along:
- Saskatchewan Drive, from 109 Street to west of 104 Street
- 104 Street, from Saskatchewan Drive to 78 Avenue
- Victoria Park Road
The locations in Old Strathcona will be installed this week, and the Victoria Park Road location will be in place by the end of the month, to coordinate with nearby construction.
Along each Summer Street, temporary flex posts will be used to create a mobility lane to separate vehicles from people biking, scooting, walking, running and using other active modes of transportation. The speed limit will also be reduced to 40 km/h for Victoria Park Road and Saskatchewan Drive as they do not have a median separating the Summer Street from the vehicle lane.
The City’s annual Summer Streets installations are one of many initiatives to make sustainable transportation more accessible. This is essential to increase Edmonton’s climate resilience, support a healthy and vibrant city and reach Edmonton’s City Plan goal of 50 per cent mode share for public transit and active modes.
