The City of Edmonton Celebrates Pride Month
June 3, 2022

Today, Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi proclaimed June 2022 Pride Month in Edmonton, recognizing the importance of building a more inclusive city where everyone can thrive and feel a sense of belonging.

“I am so excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pride in Edmonton. Even though this is a time for joy, we must remember that Pride started as a protest—even in our city, where our first demonstration followed the raid of Pisces Health Spa and bathhouse in 1981. I hope to see everyone out to remember and celebrate the incredible contributions that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community has made here and around the world. Happy Pride Edmonton!” said Mayor Sohi.

Here are a few ways to celebrate Pride 2022:
  • Rainbow Lights - watch for rainbow lights around the city, including City Hall, Muttart Conservatory, High Level Bridge, Edmonton Tower and the Rossdale Power Plant.
  • Ride with Pride! The City’s second Pride bus, which is wrapped in celebratory and inclusive pride artwork, will hit the streets in early June. The new creative concept symbolizes colours and identities coming together to embody uniqueness and inclusivity. As with the City’s first Pride bus, which was launched by Edmonton Transit Service in 2019, this bus will be in year-round circulation, demonstrating support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • You can also visit inclusive crosswalks throughout the city or visit Pride Corner at the southeast corner of Whyte Avenue and 104 Street.

There are many events for Pride Month. Check out Fruit Loop, Evolution and Capital Pride for more details. If you cannot attend in person, try virtual events such as Reflections on Rainbows hosted by LifeWorks.
