PSA Meeting Updates
Virtual 2021 PSA Annual Meeting
Presenter Information

All individuals who submitted an abstract for consideration at this summer's Annual Meeting were informed of acceptance or rejection on June 7, 2021.

Presenters will be able to start submitting their required presentation materials to PSA on Monday, June 14, 2021. Presentation materials MUST be submitted to PSA by June 30, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST at the absolute latest. Materials cannot be accepted after this deadline.

It is crucial that all abstract presenters understand what is to be submitted. Presenters are highly encouraged to review the Presenter Checklist BEFORE submitting materials to PSA.
PLEASE NOTE: Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST will be the last day to register for the meeting to get instant access once the virtual platform opens. Individuals who register after this date may experience delays getting into the platform and accessing content.

2021 Latin American Scientific Conference
Abstract Update
The deadline to submit a Latin American abstract for presentation consideration this summer at the Virtual 2021 PSA Annual Meeting has closed. Abstracts are being reviewed and authors can expect notice soon.

Accepted presenters will be required to submit the same materials outlined above by the deadline of June 30, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST.
In-Person Meeting Postponed
The face-to-face 2021 Latin American Scientific Conference has been postponed to October 2022. Exact dates will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
Interpretive Summary
Shedding Light on Egg Yolk Size Using Genomic Tools

This study examined, through genomic sequencing tools, how it may be possible to devise new breeding strategies in order to improve egg yolk size without the need for more feed.

Where did you grow up and did you have poultry in your youth?
Flat Top, West Virginia. I loved animals, but only knew that I liked to eat chicken. However, the county in WV that I am from is shaped like a chicken – so it was meant to be!
What was your first job out of school and what were your responsibilities?
I started as an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State and am still here!

If you had a motto that applied to your daily professional career, what would it be?
Be on time. Ask questions.

What value does PSA membership offer you?
I have made so many connections through PSA – both professionally and personally. PSA represents an expanded network of colleagues, family, and friends.

The PSA Hatchery is seeking interested candidates to run for Junior Student Director. Individuals can nominate themselves or their peers. Nominees must be current student members of PSA.

Recruiting the Next Generation of Poultry Professionals
While the number of students pursuing animal science degrees is increasing, more students are further removed from food animal production. There are not enough graduates to fill available jobs in agriculture. The poultry industry has a strong presence in the Midwest, but there are limited opportunities in many undergraduate programs to expose students to the industry and careers.

This research report looks at a study that aimed to increase awareness of the poultry industry as a career opportunity. Conclusions and further research opportunities are provided.
PSA Fun Run
It's Back!

Although this year's Annual Meeting is virtual, again, PSA is pleased to bring back the Fun Run as part of the social events.

The virtual Fun Run will give participants the opportunity to log their run times on a virtual scoreboard as well as order the 2021 T-Shirt!
