It is my distinct honor to have been elected as Second Vice President of the Poultry Science Association and to serve on the Board of Directors in this capacity. I have been a member of PSA since 1985. I have worked at four different universities, but PSA is my true academic home. I believe that I owe much to PSA for the opportunities that it has afforded me through the connections and friendships I have made by attending the annual meetings and service to the association.
I have attended every PSA Annual Meeting in the past 27 years, with the exception of only four. I look forward to reconnecting with friends and colleagues at the annual meeting each year. I gave my first talk at the PSA Annual Meeting in Raleigh in 1986. This opportunity to present my research to an international audience was important to my career, and I feel strongly that similar opportunities are tremendously important to the student members of our association. I am a member of other societies, but few of them allow for student talks that are so important for the professional development of our students.
I served PSA for more than 20 years as Associate Editor (1995-2004), Section Editor (2004-2010), and Editor-in-Chief (2010-2016) of the journal Poultry Science®. My own research accomplishments have been recognized with the Research Award and the Embrex Fundamental Science Award from PSA, and I was named Fellow of the Poultry Science Association in 2016. Despite this service and these recognitions, I feel that I still owe so much to PSA, and I want to see the association continue to thrive. I look forward to serving PSA as Second Vice President and on the Board of Directors.
