Introducing the New Second Vice President
My name is Martin Zuidhof, 2nd VP of the Poultry Science Association. I want to humbly express my gratitude for the faith that you, the PSA Membership, have placed in me. The PSA has been my professional home since the first meeting I attended in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1992. I have always appreciated the great people that work in the poultry industry and that I have interacted with through the PSA. I am originally from a pig farm in Canada, so the practical application of knowledge to agriculture has always been very important to me. I am fully on board with PSA’s vision to be the world’s most respected resource for the poultry sciences. I think the PSA annual meeting and our journals are excellent, but they’re not the only ways we should be reaching out to the poultry industry and society as a whole. There are opportunities to use new media with greater reach and impact to communicate solid science-based knowledge. I would like to revolutionize this aspect of PSA’s mission during my term on the executive committee. I see this as part of our responsibility to support sustainable and socially responsible production of high quality food for a growing human population. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to make PSA the best it can be!
Martin Zuidhof
2nd Vice President, PSA

Why nest is best
A closer look at the problems with floor eggs
A recent study published in The Journal of Applied Poultry Research has shown that floor eggs are less likely to be fertilized, and much more likely to be contaminated than scientists previously thought. The study also provides some best practices for improving the hatchability of floor eggs.
