PSC Swears In New Commissioner

On August 15, 2018, the Public Service Commission swore in newly elected Commissioner Justin T. Williams. Commissioner Williams represents the Sixth Congressional District.
Prior to his commissionership, Commissioner Williams was an attorney in Columbia, SC. His areas of law practice included workers' compensation, civil litigation, and criminal law.

Commissioner Howard Appointed to NARUC Committee
|
In August, Commissioner John E. "Butch" Howard was appointed to the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committee on Consumers and the Public Interest. The Committee focuses on analyzing the growing and changing role State commissions play in protecting consumer interests. With the emergence of competitive markets across the telecommunications and energy industries, consumer protection issues are becoming far more important than in the past. Members on the committee are addressing the new challenges brought on by the restructured marketplace, including slamming, information protection, and consumer education.

PSC Installs Livestream Equipment
|
In August, the Commission completed the installation of its Livestreaming equipment. The Commission livestreamed its first meeting with the new equipment on August 15, 2018. The PSC will stream all of its Commission Business Meetings and its major hearings with the newly procured equipment.

Scheduled Public Night Hearings
|
|
The Public Service Commission has scheduled three public night hearings to be held in Docket Nos.
2017-370-E,
2017-207-E, &
2017-305-E. These Dockets are in regards to pending South Carolina Electric & Gas Company matters. The 3 night hearings will begin at
6:00 p.m. at the following locations:
- Monday, September 24, 2018: Public Service Commission Hearing Room, Saluda Building, 101 Executive Center Drive, Columbia, SC 29210
- Monday, October 8, 2018: Aiken County Government Center, 1930 University Parkway, Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, Aiken, SC 29801
- Monday, October 15, 2018: Lonnie Hamilton III, Public Services Building, 4045 Bridgeview Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405
Individuals will be permitted a maximum of three minutes for oral presentations. All testimony will be given under oath and entered into the record of the case, subject to objection by the parties.

The Public Service Commission of South Carolina has received telephone calls from members of the public who have received telephone calls from individuals claiming to be an employee from the Public Service Commission wishing to discuss the potential refund available to South Carolina Electric & Gas Company customers to be given as a result of the proposed SCANA-Dominion Energy business combination.
Please be advised that no Public Service Commission of South Carolina employee will contact a member of the public about this potential refund. If consumers receive such a call, they should contact their local law enforcement agency.

PSC to Hold Annual Ethics Training
|
On October 12, 2018, the PSC will hold a Joint-Ethics Training with the Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS). The annual training will be held in accordance with Act 175 of 2004, which requires the PSC and ORS to complete six hours of ethics training each year.
