Family Conference Welcomed Families from Multiple States
July 16, 2022

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Family Resource Center’s first annual family conference a success! On July 16th, the first family conference at PSD’s campus was open to any families with deaf or hard of hearing children. The theme of Raising a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Child: Planting Seeds for Success was presented by Germaine Graham and Dr. Rashaun Davis. We welcomed families from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and even Massachusetts! The program included workshops for families and caregivers, supervised activities for Deaf and hard of hearing children and their siblings, lunch and a performance by Sunshine 2.0, a professional traveling theater troupe based at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID).

A Day at the Academy of Natural Sciences
July 30, 2022

The Family Resource Center was honored to collaborate with the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University to host a Family Day at the museum. The event was again open to all families with deaf/hard of hearing children, including PSD families, and offered a truly special way for families to network and connect with one another! The Family Resource Center provided discounted tickets for community families and free tickets for PSD families, ASL interpreters and an ASL accessible museum map for the visitors, which families could scan with their smartphones to open up videos with ASL signs/phrases they could use throughout the museum! There was also an informal social during lunchtime.

Yes, Please Touch! - August 13, 2022

The Family Resource Center at PSD partnered with the Please Teach Museum to host a fun day for families with Deaf and hard of hearing children! We were so excited to welcome 70 children and family members to enjoy a day at the museum with a special map consisting of ASL videos and QR codes for exhibits, guided tours in ASL with interpreters, and ASL story time! Thank you to everyone for making this a rich, valuable, and fun experience. We can't wait for our students to return in September and share what they have learned!
Congratulations DHCC on
50th Anniversary!

PSD was honored to co-sponsor DHCC's golden anniversary Good Vibrations event on Saturday, July 23rd at the Variety Club in Worcester, PA. We had big fun, even with the heat, and are so proud of our partnership with DHCC!

Congratulations to Executive Director Neil McDevitt and the incredibly devoted board, staff, interpreters and collaborators on this momenteous milestone, and many, many thanks for the vital services DHCC provides every day to the Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind and hearing communities!
Philadelphia Youth Network Summer Program Partnership Spurs Student Entrepreneurs!

Thanks to PSD's partnership with the Philadelphia Youth Network, our students have formed a bath bomb enterprise while they practice teamwork, gain work-readiness skills, and develop an entrepreneurial mindset! Check out some of our students as they explore building a small business from the ground up.
The bath bombs were created in a variety of fragrances: coconut, vanilla, tangerine, lavender, and more. The colorful beautifully packaged toiletries were sold in small, medium and large sizes...... awwwww, let's learn, earn and relax! Big congrats to the entire Transition Team!
PSD is hiring!
We are currently seeking staff to join our dynamic team. At PSD, you will never stop growing. Plus, you simply cannot beat Philadelphia's culture and community?

Philadelphia Police Department ADA Registration form

Individuals with a disability or medical condition may need accommodations from emergency responders. To prepare for an emergency, you can tell the Philadelphia Police Department about members of your household who might need extra help.
You should update and resubmit your information for the 911 program every two years. The form can be turned in to your local police district.

Text-to-911

Text-to-911 is a service that allows the public to send a text message to 911. Just as in a voice call, the 911 telecommunicator will continue to ask more questions about your emergency – confirming your location, the people involved, and any other details that are important to responders. Typing questions and answers back and forth with a 911 telecommunicator takes a considerable amount of time, so please be patient and be as clear and concise as possible with your answers. For this reason, a voice call is preferred.

Call the City’s 24-hour Violence Prevention Hotline

Philadelphians can now dial 2-1-1 to get access to resources and services for violence prevention in the city 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
To use the hotline, callers can dial “2-1-1” to be directed to a
2-1-1 main menu. Callers should then press “3” to be put in touch with a Resource Navigator. This Resource Navigator quickly gathers information from the caller to refer or connect the caller to the resources they need.

Trolley Modernization Survey
Riders of SEPTA’s eight trolley lines are being encouraged to take a survey to help determine the course of a $1.85 billion overhaul.
The authority is in the early stages of its “Trolley Modernization” project, a multi-year effort to replace trolley vehicles, improve accessibility, update stops and speed up service. Some lines may also be extended.
New trolley stations will be larger than existing stops, and participants in the online questionnaire are asked their opinions. Share your thoughts at the link above.
