Creativity takes courage

Creative expression, artistic voices abundant at 17th PSD SuperArt! show

Canyon VanBuskirk loves that making art can be a form of self-care and a source of happiness for others.

“It is a way for me to forget about things and be proud of myself,” said VanBuskirk, a Fort Collins High School freshman who is one among about 40 Poudre School District students whose work is featured in the district’s SuperArt! show in the boardroom at PSD’s administrative offices.

VanBuskirk’s artwork is a blend of the serene and neon. A final project for his photography class, the digital portrait called “Passion of Everything,” came to life with intentionality, a drumstick and a green screen background to express the longtime drummer’s love for music and photography.

Students live out legal aspirations through mock trial

“The adrenaline of being on the stand, having to use your strongest acting skills or strategic decision-making to win a round is a major rush.”

By day, Elwood Sheflin is a junior at Rocky Mountain High School. By night, Sheflin questions witnesses as a defense attorney and serves as a prime witness on the stand during a (mock) civil lawsuit trial.

Sheflin has been participating in the Mock Trial program at Rocky this school year, learning how to stay calm under pressure in a stressful environment while also having fun.

Being a part of the Mock Trial program is a weighty time investment, with practices going from October until March ahead of the spring state competition. It is all worth it to Sheflin.

Talk with PSD school board members

The PSD Board of Education is hosting three more community engagement sessions this spring that are open to anyone to attend on March 29, April 5 and April 19.

These are the first in-person community conversations the board has hosted since before the start of the pandemic. They are designed to be casual spaces in which people can talk with one to two of the board members about their experiences, concerns and hopes for PSD. Discussion is not limited to any particular topic. Attendees do not need to RSVP. Read more >>

PSD’s new School Resource Officer feedback form

As part of PSD's commitment to ongoing evaluation of its School Resource Officer (SRO) Program, the district created a new online form that students, staff, families and community members can use to share feedback about their interactions with School Resource Officers. The form is available here. Completing it is voluntary. For those completing a form, the more information you share, the more helpful it will be for our teams. Read more >>

Spring state testing underway now in PSD schools

Assessments measure student progress toward the Colorado Academic Standards, help teachers identify each student's instructional needs and progress, and monitor the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
