God at Work Around the PSD
No Longer Walking Alone
Beautiful Savior, Tempe, AZ &
Mountain View, Apache Junction, AZ
A look at the amazing work God is doing through churches, schools and other ministries in our District.
Over the last year, the leaders of Beautiful Savior in Tempe have thought about Luke 10 often, where Jesus sends out the 72 in pairs to work together and encourage each other. It illustrates how two really are better than one. So, after seeing other examples of churches partnering within our district, Beautiful Savior wanted to see if something similar could work for them.

Circuit Visitor Rev. Paul Frank began working with Beautiful Savior in December 2019. After soul searching, they determined they were not able to call a full-time pastor. That left some high tensions for the church family there, but with input and ideas from PSD District President Gibson, they began discussing options.

National Lutheran Schools Week
Dear Esteemed Leaders in Lutheran Schools,

Attached is a letter for you and your staff regarding National Lutheran Schools Week which begins on Sunday! I hope you are celebrating this unity and “oneness” that we have in Lutheran Schools in the PSD and across the country and around the world next week! Send your pictures of your celebrations! We will be posting things to our Facebook page and website, and will put this also in Connections. We want to see YOUR students! Please send the NLSW pictures from your school to [email protected]. Anna is putting together our annual picture log of our teachers, administrators and students during this eventful week.

I thank the Lord for you! We are connected in Christ!

In His love,
Rachel Klitzing
Kaleidoscope Fund
For 2022 grants, eligibility is limited to LCMS K-8 elementary schools.*
Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is proud to announce the 2022 Kaleidoscope Fund grant process opened January 15 with a proposal submission deadline of June 1.

The committee will then select ministries from these proposals to apple for a grant. Funds will be granted in amounts between $10,000 and $40,000.

This year, we're inviting Lutheran schools to dream about programs and projects that improve and expand the reach of their school through four categories:

  • Faculty wellness
  • Curriculum development
  • Technology
  • Student engagement/outreach.

Visit lcef.org/kaleidoscope for full details.

*Schools that are RSOs are not eligible. Note: LCEF Articles of Incorporation and Synod Bylaws prohibit LCEF from distributing net operating results to Auxiliaries, RSOs, seminaries, colleges or universities of the Synod.
Continuing Education Course
Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Orange, CA will be hosting a CTSFW Continuing Education Class God's Two Kingdoms and Three Estates taught by Professor John Pless, August 1-3.

Using essays from the new book, One Lord, Two Hands: Essays on the Theology of the Two Kingdoms edited by Matthew Harrison and John T. Pless, this course will explore the implication of the Lutheran teaching of the two kingdoms and the three estates for Christian vocation and confession in a fallen world. In a day where political activism on the part of both conservative and progressive churches threatens to “mix and muddle” (Luther) God’s twohanded way of governing His creation, this course will provide pastors with resources for faithfully distinguishing Law and Gospel in the public square.

District Convention News
Video Message from President Gibson
The 46th Regular District Convention is scheduled for June 22-24, 2022 at
Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School in Las Vegas, NV.

Nominations - Deadline February 18
While the Convention may seem like a long way off, it is time to begin the Nomination and Overture process. All information and forms relating to the Nomination process will be found on the PSD website.

Delegates - Deadline February 18
Each rostered congregation in the PSD is entitled, and encouraged, to send one eligible Pastor and one Layperson as Voting Delegates. You are also asked to select an Alternate Lay Delegate who would serve in the place of the delegate if, at the time of the Convention, the elected delegate is unable to serve. All Pastors are expected to attend their District Convention, even if they are not a voting Pastoral Delegate. They are considered Advisory Delegates.

Non-rostered congregations may elect a representative to attend the Convention. However, such delegates cannot be given the right to vote if the congregation has not been received as a member of Synod (has a constitution approved by the District Board of Directors) prior to the Convention. If you have any questions as to whether your congregation or pastor is eligible, please contact the District President’s office.

Rostered teachers, DCE’s and other commissioned ministers currently cannot serve as voting lay delegates. They are, however, Advisory Delegates and encouraged to attend. Advisory Delegates provide important perspective and are encouraged to express their opinion by speaking to the convention. In addition, there will be an enhanced role for commissioned ministers during the convention proceedings - more information to come on this.

Watch for more Convention information coming soon!
