Employers also must train workers to ensure they know the provisions of the hazardous energy control procedures that apply to their particular job. For example, employees who are authorized to lockout machinery and perform service/maintenance operations need to be trained to recognize the hazardous energy sources in the workplace, the type and magnitude of energy found in the workplace, and the means and methods of isolating and/or controlling the energy.
Employees who work in an area where energy control procedures are utilized must be trained in the purpose and use of those procedures, with a focus on the hazards of restarting or reenergizing machinery that is locked/tagged out.
To maximize the effectiveness of your LOTO training, make sure to offer it in the language(s) that best suit(s) your workforce.
