Stand-Down
Day!
PSI and ISRI invite all recycling companies to participate in Safety Stand-Down Day on Wednesday, June 16. This annual event asks companies to take one hour on each shift to celebrate their workforce and health-and-safety programs.
Some ways that PSI and ISRI members have celebrated Safety Stand-Down Day in the past include:
■ holding a training class;
■ conducting blind-spot drills around mobile equipment;
■ reviewing near-misses and other potentially serious injuries that could have occurred in the work environment; and
■ holding open forums with employees to discuss ways to continuously improve the health-and-safety program.
Your company also could consider focusing its Safety Stand-Down Day activities on OSHA’s Safe + Sound campaign, which centers on three pillars that form a strong health-and-safety program: management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards. Please note: ISRI’s safety team wants to know how your company marks Safety Stand-Down Day. Send a description of your company's activities along with related photos to isrisafety@isri.org.
