PPRC in Chicago

The ReMA Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Chapter had a high-profile presence at the Paper and Plastics Recycling Conference (PPRC), held Oct. 15-16 in Chicago, beginning with hosting a pre-PPRC reception for PSI members and potential new members. The gathering—held Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Living Room space of the Hyatt Regency Chicago—“was well attended and full of vibrant energy,” said PSI member and reception attendee Lynn Mulder of Pratt Recycling, adding that the reception “was a great opportunity to kick off the conference networking.” At the reception, PSI displayed a sign recognizing the donors of last year’s PSI scholarship program and announced the launch of its fundraising drive for 2026 scholarships. “We got our first donation Tuesday night at the reception,” noted PSI Chapter President Tamara Mayberry of Pioneer Industries International. PSI’s goal is to meet or exceed last year’s record scholarship awards of $55,000 to 21 students.

As at previous PPRC events, the PSI Chapter also sponsored a panel session this year. The panel, held Thursday, Oct. 16, focused on "PSI Specifications—Past, Present, and Future." Before beginning the panel, however, Mayberry discussed PSI’s scholarship program and invited attendees to donate to this worthy cause. She also asked PSI members to encourage graduating high school students in their circle to apply for a PSI scholarship, noting that the 2026 application is now live on the PSI website. As a final bit of association business, Mayberry introduced a new member of the ReMA national staff—Mike Marino, who recently came aboard as VP of safety. After Marino spoke, Mayberry and PSI Chapter Secretary/Treasurer Ed Tucciarone of Graphic Packaging International held a raffle drawing for an iPad Mini A17 Pro, and Michael Cheesebro of Graphic Packaging International was the lucky winner. Mayberry then introduced Past PSI Chapter President Leonard Zeid of Midland Davis Trading as moderator of the PSI panel discussion, which featured speakers Ed Tucciarone, Krystina Smith of Smurfit WestRock, and Justin Jungman of PADNOS. The panel reviewed how the PSI recovered-paper specifications are established, including the processes for requesting changes and getting final approval. “The panel also gave a great overview regarding the advantages of being involved in the PSI Specifications Committee and the chapter as a whole,” Mulder said.
