At Heifer, we're grateful for your efforts to end hunger and poverty. Here is an example of what your giving has done:

Seven year old Izabela Sambane lives in southern Tanzania with her parents and little brother, Musa. She is a student at Itunduma Primary School and has lots to be excited this year. She is participating in Heifer   International's  Tanzania School Milk Program  and receives regular helpings of milk that have already boosted her energy, attention span and attendance. Launched in 2017, this program not only improves nutrition for children like Izabela but it also helps dairy farmers cultivate markets, which strengthen the local economy. Since joining the program, Izabela's mom, Justina, reports that her grades are among the highest in her class and she's excited about getting up each morning to go to school.

YOUR support has allowed children like Izabela to live a life free of hunger and poverty. We appreciate your help in making that happen.

"Awakening The Sage Within"

A one-day event offered by
Sage-ing® International

Saturday, October 6, 2018

Shades Valley Presbyterian Church
Birmingham, AL

Doors open at 8:30 AM, in session from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Let me be the first to wish you Happy Holidays!

If you're like us here at Heifer, you are already thinking about the holidays, right? With all the focus on "stuff", it is easy to get into a gift-giving rut and feel like giving has lost impact and meaning (think: another candle, gift card, or novelty t-shirt).

But if you wanted to give the best gift ever this season, what would it be? An end to hunger? Preservation of the environment? Education for all children? Clean water? Strong communities?

A Heifer International  Living Gift Market (LGM)   is a great opportunity to help everyone in your community get out of the rut and purchase a memorable gift for their loved ones. And these are no ordinary gifts! Giving the gift of an animal is like giving someone a small business. It's a means to empowerment and self-sufficiency for the most vulnerable. It's a gift that keeps on giving…AND getting ready for your LGM is easy!

1) Order the  Living Gift Market Kit  to get all you need, or to get started even more quickly, you can download our  Living Gift Market Leaders' Guide . In it, you will find all the information about what you need for a successful event like Gift Order Forms, Honor Cards,  and Animal Insert Cards.

2) Recruit  any volunteers or helpers you may need. (Fun hint: LGMs are a GREAT way to get your youth group involved, too!)

3) Set a time, date and place -LGMs can take place anywhere and can last 30 minutes, 3 hours, 3 days or even 3 weeks. Many LGMs take place in the narthex after church or in the basement during coffee hour. It's that simple!

4) Send in your donation  and celebrate all the good your holidays have done for the world!

Thank you for walking on this journey with Heifer International to end hunger and poverty. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can support you along the way.

Peace and joy to you this holiday season.

We hope you will continue to visit our website for Mission projects. We are sharing ideas, publicizing and celebrating all the mission projects that the churches in the Presbytery perform.

The next collection date is Saturday,
October 6. Bring your usable discards, gently used clothing, etc., to the Presbyterian Home for Children's reception center in the rear parking lot, below the playground of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church. Terry Tingle will be serving as host. Volunteers will be on hand to unload your vehicle and to give you a receipt for your tax-deductible donation. The center will be open from 8 AM - 12 noon. To volunteer or for more information, email Terry Tingle.
