The events of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, occurring largely in the U.S. South, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, profoundly changed the course of our nation’s history, leading to the abolishment of legalized racial segregation, discrimination, and disenfranchisement. Through the non-violent, peaceful means of marches, protests, walk-outs, sit-ins, boycotts and demonstrations, citizens and movement leaders resisted continuing oppression and engaged in a hard-fought struggle to expand civil rights and dismantle the structural racism of their time. |
Living into this NEXT Chapter with Joy!
You know that feeling when you find your groove after a long, hard season? It's pure joy. That's exactly what we are starting to feel across our network and within NEXT Church. The work is still hard, but when you find yourself grounded once again as fresh air fills your lungs, joy springs up.
We are grateful to those who attended our Town Hall Meeting on Monday evening. NEXT Church leadership shared some updates and then engaged in a generative activity and discussion. Members of the Vision Team were excited to announce the invitation for individuals to consider serving on the NEXT Church Vision Team for a two year term. You can read more about the opportunity and submit your application by Friday, February 23.
Here are some other highlights:
Participate in the upcoming Lenten Series using a preview of our new resource “Antiracism as a Way of Being.” We look forward to this resource becoming available for wider use in late Spring.
Register for the National Gathering in Falls Church, VA on April 8-11, 2024. We hope to see you there! 🌱
As NEXT Church's new Executive Director, I talked about the direction and vision for NEXT Church in this chapter.
We all spent a lot of time dreaming and wondering about the church in 2024. Will you help us continue the conversation? You are invited to add your own thoughts to the Jamboard!
Consider supporting NEXT Church with a financial gift, both individually and as a church.
