One Great Hour Of Sharing and Pentecost Offerings

As 2021 begins, we look back, in gratitude, for the ways the Church has been faithful to its calling despite the incredible challenges of 2020. We pray that your congregation is well and looking forward to a hopeful and helpful year.

Your congregation has been essential to the compassionate ministries with those experiencing hunger, poverty, disaster, and oppression, through One Great Hour of Sharing, and our shared ministry with children youth and young adults through the Pentecost Offering. While many congregations were unable to participate in 2020, your support this year will be a powerful witness to who we are, as a Church, in response to the grace of Jesus Christ.

We are so excited about One Great Hour of Sharing and Pentecost, and want to support you with your digital and in-person promotional efforts. We also have a new Facebook Group – Special Offerings: Promoting Presbyterian Mission Together. Join the group and interact with other church leaders, sharing stories and ideas, learning from each other and Special Offerings staff as we work to build God’s household, together.

2021 Lenten devotions from the Presbyterian Outlook
Theologically sound, inspiring and affordable devotions for the congregation.

The six-week Lenten journey is an opportunity to take on a new spiritual discipline. This year, congregations are invited to pray with Scripture as a way of discerning God’s movement in our personal lives and in the life of the world around us.

Throughout the season of Lent, these daily devotions ... read more.

Services Available for Homeless Children and Caregivers

The Presbyterian Home in Talladega, AL, has limited openings in its program that provides safe and affordable housing to homeless children and their female caregiver.

While living on our campus, our dedicated staff ministers to the family's needs. We provide a safe haven for the children to rest, grow, learn, and play while empowering the caregiver to reach self-sufficiency.

The program provides employment assistance, case management services, and assistance in obtaining food stamps, health insurance, and other benefits as well as counseling and life skills instruction. Children are eligible to attend Ascension Leadership Academy, our own school which focuses on meeting individual academic needs.

The Secure Dwellings program is not an emergency shelter and only accepts families through an application, interview and assessment process. If you, or someone you know, is in need of our services, we encourage you to email the program at smoore@phfc.org or call at 256-362-2114, ext. 1208

Matthew 25

Living into the vision: PC(USA) discerns what it means to be a Matthew 25 church So what does it mean to be a Matthew 25 church – one that lives into Jesus’ teaching from Matthew’s Gospel to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the stranger, the prisoner, those in need? Click the link above to read more.

If your church has recently become a Matthew 25 church, would you please let the Presbytery office know? You may email Tammy to confirm. Also, please register on the Matthew 25 website below and your church will receive a packet of resources from PMA:

In Our Prayers

Please pray for Michael Holloway whose home was destroyed in the Fultondale tornado. Michael is a member at Gardendale Presbyterian and was a former member of SLPYC, worked on Summer Staff at Gulftreat and a former PSL camper. Gardendale has set up a fund for Michael at the church. Make checks payable to Gardendale Presbyterian Church and indicate Holloway in the memo line. Please also pray for the lives lost and other families affected by this storm.
Project Empathy Update

Thanks be to God! Project Empathy has received $83,771.46 in donations. Our goal was $50,000. The money has gone to RIP Medical Debt, Inc to eliminate medical debt in 10 counties in the Black Belt. These ten counties are: Chambers, Macon, Lowndes, Dallas, Perry, Wilcox, Hale, Greene, Sumter and Pickens. One dollar in donation will eliminate $100 of medical debt. Therefore, by your generosity, over $8 million in debt will be eliminated.

Project Empathy is ending. There are two more outstanding donations on their way to RIP Medical Debt and then Project Empathy’s donation page will be closed. RIP Medical Debt will get to work on buying the debt and sending letters to the debtors that their debt has been forgiven. This works like grace.

Then, RIP Medical Debt will send us information in the next few weeks about how much debt was eliminated and how many people were impacted. So, look for more posts in the next month.

Again, thanks be to God for enabling us to do this. And thank you for your generosity.
