Presbyterian Outlook
Looking into the lectionary
November 7, 2021
24th Sunday after Pentecost
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
“I put myself back in the narrative” sings Eliza in the closing song of the musical about her husband, Alexander Hamilton. This closing song centers on Eliza and includes the refrain, “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” It left me in tears as I watched “Hamilton” live in Chicago, a special Christmas gift for our family and our last trip before the pandemic. I was moved by creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s storytelling through contemporary lyrics, choreography and voices of people of color. “Hamilton” makes it clear whose voices...read more.

Update on the Habitat House
The pictures of the house with siding and roof are of the house the Presbytery is sponsoring at 1033 Herring Street in Midfield. These photos were taken Oct. 8. On Oct. 14, the volunteers were rescheduled to a Habitat house in East Lake at 6733-2nd Ave. South. There were issues with getting the water turned on at the Midfield house. Refer a Student to
UKirk Campus Ministries
The PC(USA) college ministries in our Presbytery (UKirk) would love to connect with your college students as they head off to school this fall! If your congregation has students who may be interested in UKirk, please fill out this form and share it widely in your congregations. The UKirk ministry leaders (Rev. Caroline Barnett - UKirk Auburn, Rev. Andy Spaulding - UKirk Bama, The Steering Team for UKirk Birmingham, and Lin Veasey - UKirk JSU) will check submissions regularly and get in touch with students to welcome them to campus. And most importantly, tell your college students to look up UKirk when they arrive to campus; a word of mouth recommendation from someone they trust is the most effective form of referral. We can’t wait to welcome your students to our communities this fall.
