Mark 12: 38-44
This Sunday we hear Jesus warn the crowds of those who seek power, glory, and riches for themselves but are unwilling to help others. As Jesus watches the crowd put money into the collection box, he notices a poor widow contributing 2 small coins. He proclaims to his disciples that this woman contributed more than all the others, for she gave all that she had. Living up to the demands of family life requires us to give all we have, our whole livelihood. We are called to make sacrifices and acts of kindness in our day-to-day living, and we can see the joy these acts bring to those we love. Just as family life stretches our muscles in terms of generosity, self-gift, and unlimited love so too should we strive to give of ourselves in this manner with God.
On the way to Mass: Why do you think it matters to God what we give him?
On the way home from Mass: Why do you think the poor woman gave away her money?
Challenge of the Week: Think of one sacrifice your family can make this week. Perhaps you give up sweets, set a limit on screen time, or commit to praying before dinner.
