Mark 9:30-37
This Sunday we hear Jesus asks his disciples, 'What were you arguing about along the way?'. The disciples did not want to answer Jesus because they had been talking about who was the greatest among them. Although they did not answer Jesus, since He is God and knows all things he told his disciples, "If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all." Jesus doesn't get upset or angry at their wanting to be the greatest, but shows them a new way to look at their status. Jesus doesn't care if we are the greatest or best, but that we serve and love those in our midst.
On the way to Mass: Who do you think is the greatest disciple of Jesus?
On the way home from Mass: How would you react if Jesus caught you arguing with your sibling or friend about who is better? What do you notice about how Jesus responds to his disciples?
Challenge of the Week: Look for an opportunity this week to sacrifice something you really want for the good of another. Perhaps it's taking the broken cookie, letting your siblings sit in the front seat, or playing what someone else wants to play at recess.
