PSR PA invites you to volunteer with us!
In 2019...
We held 3 PA statewide Health-Check Ups to educate about the health impacts of fracking. We continued our decades long youth violence prevention work. We helped bring parents of children with cancer to Harrisburg who confronted PA Governor Wolf with the real impacts of fracking, prompting him to invest
$3 million
in researching its health effects
.
We could not have accomplished this without our volunteers.
In 2020... we ask you to join us!
Whether you are newly retired, between jobs, building your career, or juggling as much of life as you can keep in the air - we can find a place for you to volunteer at PSR Phila / PA. Opportunities include a wide range of positions - including public speaking, providing testimony, clerical tasks, event tabling, conducting research, writing blogs or twitters - please consider sharing your time to help us.

Cancer and Environment Meeting
PSR representatives, Dr. Ned Ketyer and Laura Dagley, attended a Cancer and Environment Meeting on December 4th. Originally, the group explored research on the impact of the environment on cancer risk. The group is now focusing on education of healthcare professionals of these risks. They are working to create educational materials for HCPs and their patients.

PSR PA 40th Anniversary Celebration!
On Sunday, December 8th PSR PA celebrated our 40th Anniversary at the gorgeous and historic Oaks Cloister in Germantown. It was a magical evening in what is certainly one of Philadelphia's most beautiful homes. The event for PSR supporters allowed us to reminisce about four decades of activism and accomplishment. We heard from our own Tammy Murphy and Corey Davis and recognized Pennsylvania politicians, whose environmental work has helped protect the public health of all Pennsylvanians.

Fire Drill Fridays with Jane Fonda: Climate and Health
On December 19-20, PSR PA joined forces with the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments and Jane Fonda for a Fire Drill Friday in Washington DC! The Fire Drill Friday, hosted on December 20, focused on health and climate change. 60 nurses attended wearing white lab coats and red berets. 138 people were arrested,
including 12 nurses, Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem, Sandra Steingraber, and PSR PA's Medical Outreach Coordinator Laura Dagley, RN!
The demands of Fire Drill Fridays are modeled after the youth climate strikers and call for a Green New Deal, respect of indigenous land, environmental justice and more!

Heat Pump and Induction Stove Grant
PSR PA was recently awarded a Heat Pump and Induction Stove grant from PSR National! It will be used to discuss the health benefits from switching from gas to electric which is increasingly being considered by enlightened cities. Philadelphia owns its own fossil gas company. If we are to move away from gas heat, we need to electrify our homes and switch to heat pumps and electric induction stoves. If you have experience with heat pumps and induction stoves, please share your thoughts at info@psrphila.org
