Updates on PSR
PSR's voice is heard at Harrisburg Capitol!
On May 22, the "Rally & Lobby Day: PA Demands Clean Air & a Clean Budget" took place on the steps of the capitol at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.
The event drew attention to the call for Governor Wolf and the state legislature to strengthen methane standards and commit to a clean budget. Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas in the nation and methane leaks at every step of the development process across the state. Along with methane, other air pollutants leak, including known carcinogens and precursors to smog. PSR PA's Dr. Walter Tsou spoke about the need for methane pollution standards and urged elected officials to write a clean state budget.
We Choose a Better Path Coalition
PSR, alongside many other organizations, signed the coalition's letter  early this year and has been working to bring attention to the voices of the many individuals, families and whole communities across the state suffering from the health impacts of the shale gas industry. The Governor believes fracking can be done safely, but peer reviewed studies in Pennsylvania show that asthma, premature births, migraines among other symptoms are correlated to close proximity to gas well pads. The coalition planned a protest outside a Wolf fundraiser Wednesday in Philadelphia. Click here to find out more about the protest and here to find out more about the organization.
