We are all in this together and we are here to support you. and let us know.
We continue to monitor the situation and are working to provide answers to your most pressing questions. At the top of this list is UC eligibility for shareholder employees of S & C corporations whose businesses have been shut down under government order. We have been told that PAUC will provide additional guidance this week to self-employed persons, independent contractors and gig workers about how to apply for the UC benefits that they are administering for the feds under the CARES Act. However, it is not known if shareholder-employees will also be eligible for these benefits.
YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED.
Help us ensure that shareholder employees of S&C corporations will meet the UC eligibility requirements provided for in the CARES Act by sending a short email to your elected House and Senate member.
Please understand that we have not been told that these individuals will not qualify, but we have also not been told that they will despite our ongoing requests for information. At this point we need to confirm that they are a part of the discussion.

EMAIL INFORMATION RE: S&C Corp Shareholders
Dear Honorable _______________:
I reside in your district and my accounting practice is in _____________ (if different). It is my understanding that PAUC will soon provide an application process through which self-employed individuals, independent contractors and gig workers can apply for unemployment compensation benefits.
I am reaching out to you today on behalf of many of my small business clients to ensure that another group, shareholder-employees of S&C corporations are not forgotten and also meet the eligibility requirements for UC benefits. These individuals are on the company payroll and have paid UC taxes, but under normal circumstances they only qualify for UC benefits in the case of involuntary bankruptcy. To date, PAUC has not provided any information as to the eligibility of these individuals. Please don't let them be forgotten; many of them have been forced to close by government order and as a result have no income at all.
Thank you for your help. If you have any questions or if you would like to discuss this further, please contact me.
