MISD Updates 2020–2021 Academic Calendar with Designated At-Home Learning Days for Spring Semester
In December the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced a new waiver option for school districts that allows for the scheduling of periodic asynchronous (at-home) instructional days during the spring of 2021. Asynchronous learning is a general term used to describe education or lessons that do not occur in the same place or at the same time. For example, students would learn from home and receive classroom assignments from learning platforms such as SeeSaw and Canvas, and complete the assignment independently.
Under this new option, districts are provided with an opportunity to change a regular school day to be asynchronous instruction (students learn remotely and independently) in order to provide additional planned professional development, teacher preparation days, and to focus on teacher planning and student engagement.
The waiver option came at a critical time during the COVID-19 pandemic, when most school districts and teachers can benefit significantly from additional planning and collaboration, due to the demands of teaching in-person and virtual students simultaneouslyThe following dates have been designated as asynchronous instruction days in McKinney ISD, and all students will learn remotely and independently on these days. There will not be a required time to log in on the asynchronous days, and assignments will be posted on SeeSaw and Canvas. More details coming soon from our teachers.

Classroom Valentine's Parties
Classroom Valentine Parties: February 12, 2021
Dear Parents,

We will be having grade-level classroom Valentine Parties in a similar fashion as our winter holiday class parties.

On Feb. 8th our students can bring their decorated Valentine boxes/bags to school. Then, on Feb. 12th, during our Valentine Day parties, students can put their valentine cards inside of boxes of classmate peers. In an abundance of caution, the decorated boxes will not be opened at school. Once students take their boxes home, parents can elect to have their children wait a few days or open their Valentine boxes immediately. Virtual students can have their parents come up to Wolford on Feb. 12th to pick up their Valentine Craft Party Boxes put together by their homeroom volunteers.

Our grade-level room moms will bring the party craft boxes on Feb. 8th, so they can sit for 4 days before the parties begin. This is how we handled our winter parties and the process went smoothly. Homeroom teachers will run the parties and as before, we will not be having parents come to our Valentine parties.

As always, your support is appreciated as our students enjoy receiving Valentine Cards from their peers.
Helping our Teachers : Making Copies

January/February Workroom Volunteers are needed to help out the teachers. This is an excellent way to help out your classroom teachers, so they have more time working directly with our kiddos, instead of spending their time in the workroom.
Wolford Clinic News
Now is a good time to replace your child’s extra clothing with some warmer winter clothes! Please send an extra change of clothing in a large ziplock bag for your child to keep in his/her backpack throughout the year. Should your child have an accident of any kind, his/her own clothing will be readily available along with a bag in which to place the soiled clothing to send home. Your child simply will have a “grab bag” of clothing with everything he/she needs to change clothing. If a change of clothing is not in your child’s backpack, a school employee will contact you to either bring clothing to school or to have you take your child home for a clothing change.

Please take a few minutes to be sure that your contact numbers are correct in the computer system. This will help us to contact you if your child is injured or becomes sick while at school. If you need to update your contact number or make changes in the computer system please notify our registrar Mrs. Godfrey @ kgodfrey@mckinneyisd.net and she will be able to assist you.

Thanks so much for your help!

Dear Parent or Guardian,

In an effort to promote a safe and healthy environment for students and staff, the District has been working to put in place new health and social distancing protocols in response to COVID-19. It is important for all parents to have a working knowledge of the infectious period of someone with COVID-19. People are infectious before they have symptoms, meaning they could be spreading the disease without even knowing it.

Therefore, it is imperative that parents abide by the following regulations:
  • ·   Parents are to screen their child, daily prior to arriving on campus, for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 including:
Feeling Feverish or Fever (100.0 or greater) Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Cough Fatigue (Excessively tired)
Significant muscle or body aches Headache
Loss of taste or smell Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose Diarrhea Chills
If your child demonstrates any of the above signs or symptoms, he/she must stay home until COVID-19 Return to School Criteria is met OR an alternative diagnosis from a medical professional is received by the campus nurse. Please report your child’s absence to the campus nurse. Please do not give fever reducing medication and send your child to school.
When a parent/guardian is called regarding an ill student at school, the parent/guardian must arrange for the student to be picked up in a timely manner (within 30-60 min). Please plan accordingly, and have a responsible adult who is willing and available to pick up your child. In the event you need to send someone that is not in your emergency contact list, make sure that you have communicated who the person is with the campus.
A student displaying COVID-19 symptoms will be isolated in the clinic or other designated isolation area with a mask in place until your arrival.
Continuously make sure all contact and emergency contact phone numbers are updated in the student information system. Please place your child’s campus phone number in the contacts on your phone. This will ensure calls from the campus are recognized.
Students exhibiting signs or symptoms of illness will not, under any circumstance, be allowed to walk or bike home, ride the bus, or utilize a ride service.
The District is asking that parents follow the recommendations set forth by the CDC, Texas State Department of Health Services(DSHS), and Texas Education Agency(TEA) and have your child wear a face covering when developmentally appropriate. If there is a medical condition that prohibits your child from wearing a face covering, please contact the school nurse.
Please be sure your child washes or sanitizes his/her hands before leaving home for the school day.
