In loving memory of Denis Murphy
Denis Murphy, Memorial
Dear Members of the HSAS Community:

I would like to invite you to join me in honoring the life of our teacher and colleague, Mr. Denis
Murphy, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

On that day, we will be publishing on our website all of the tributes that have been submitted by
students, teachers, parents, alumni, and friends of our school. Please note that you may still write a
tribute, before Monday morning, clicking on this LINK

From 1:00–2:00 PM on Wednesday, I would like to suggest that we all do the following:
• Make yourself a cup of tea. Mr. Murphy loved his tea.
• Sit somewhere comfortable.
• Spend the hour in quiet reflection. You may wish to read the tributes on our website,
meditate, draw, say a prayer, read a book, or just think.
• At 2 PM on the dot, raise your glass of tea and drink a toast to the one and only Denis

Although we are apart, and scattered across our city, we will all be doing the same thing, at the
same time. Members of Mr. Murphy’s family will also be invited to participate.
Your teachers will not be teaching any lessons or assigning new work after 1:00 PM. The afternoon is yours and Mr. Murphy’s.When we return to school, we will plan together a celebration of Mr. Murphy’s life and his
contributions to our community, and, as is our tradition, we will dedicate a space in our garden to honor his memory. We will invite his family to attend that event, too.

I can’t say that I will see you on April 8, but it will feel good to know that we are together in spirit.

Best regards,
Mr. Weiss
