Dear Parents of HSAS:
I write to you amidst all of the chaos and confusion of a citywide shutdown and a worldwide pandemic. As we navigate these uncharted waters, it is the goal of the PTA to look past the immediate school closure and to prepare for the return of our students to HSAS in April. Last week, the executive board met with Mr. Weiss, Principal, and Mr. Oliveri, Vice Principal of HSAS. Due to a short-fall in 2019-20 student admissions at HSAS and its impact on the financial health of the school, the executive board, in conjunction with HSAS administration, is proposing an amendment to the 2019-20 PTA budget. The goal of this amendment is to protect line-items such as clubs, end-of-year events, and student guidance. The result of this proposed amendment is as follows:
- $25,000 reallocated from grade-wide trips, which will not take place due to Coronavirus to Per Session 2020 School Expenses
- $11,000 reallocated from grade-wide trips, which will not take place due to Coronavirus to end-of-year 2020 Special Events
- $25,000 deducted from the HSAS-PTA reserved fund and added to the line item Per Session 2020 School Expenses
Per the PTA by-laws: A budget can be amended only after the executive board members have approved it and it has been voted on by the association. No additional funds may be used until the membership has approved the revised budget. The PTA’s budget is not the school’s budget; it is used to augment HSAS programming and resources. Generally, a budget can be amended by a vote of the association at any regular meeting or at a special meeting called for that purpose. Since we are in a special circumstance, we will be voting on the amendment via the attached google form.
Please vote on the revised budget by clicking on the
(Voting starts immediately and will end at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020.) We will announce results of the vote via email next week.
