Dear PTAC Scouters and Families,
The past few months have been difficult for all of us. We had to adapt to a new reality, and though it may have been difficult, the tenets of Scouting helped us persevere. Even more impressive is how you’ve taken Scouting and made it virtual, ensuring that Scouts still reaped the benefits of our program.
As we begin to resume our lives with no vaccine or cure yet available, we must continue to make the safety of ourselves and each other a top priority. After all, as Scouts, we pledge to be
. To that end, we are currently allowing for a cautious reopening of Scouting activities beginning on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
This date is subject to change based on the City of Chicago’s guidance.
Our Service Centers and Scout Shops will reopen on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. This cautious reopening will follow the guidelines and phases of the City of Chicago, where the council is headquartered. Regardless of where a unit is located within the council, it will be required to follow the city’s guidelines.
Remember, even as we reopen, our goal is to keep everyone healthy, and we need your help. Therefore, as your unit begins to meet in-person again, we require that all of the following precautions be taken:
- All gatherings are limited to 10 or fewer people (includes leaders, Scouts, and family members. Youth protection guidelines must still be followed.)
- When meeting, everyone should practice social distancing and wear a face mask.*
- Frequently touched surfaces should be cleaned after each use.
- All Scouts, leaders, and family members should stay home if they feel ill or have come into contact with someone with COVID-19.
We know that these precautions will make Scouting look a lot different than it did before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we also know that we will continue to persevere and find creative ways to keep Scouting. Remember, these strict precautions are not going to last forever, but it is our duty to follow them now so that we can move to the next phase as soon as possible. As the city continues to move forward, so will we.
Thank you for doing your part to stop the spread. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Yours in Scouting,
The Pathway to Adventure Council Team
*Children under 2 years old and those with health conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask are exempt from this precaution.
